I’m coaching an elite sprinter and I noticed that he yawned a lot during training. He was also quickly out of breath after a couple of sprints despite the long rest in between. His breathing also seemed unsynchronised with his running pattern. When I heard Filip Pyl talking during a seminar, I recognised that there was a problem with his breathing. It took some months to convince the athlete, but now he is convinced of the importance of breathing. He followed a breathing program and not only is he yawning less, he can tolerate larger volumes at practice, runs more relaxed, runs new PR's and sleeps better.
